El Miton

As a bilingual teacher I LOVE to read books about the season in Spanish! But sometimes it's hard to find good ones that your kids will enjoy! On this post I would like to share one of my favorite Spanish books for the season!

El miton by Jan Brett, is a great book for teaching sequence of events, problem & solution and characters! The kiddos love it and love to make real-life connections while we are reading it out loud.
My sweet friend Juliana Suarez from Kinder Bilingue has a great read aloud for this story{HERE}.
After I read this story I let my kiddos create their own mitten and write about the things they love to do on a snow day! You can also let them write about the story problem & solution or about the characters.

You can download this activity for free {HERE}.

A wonderful 1st week!

I had a great first week back! My new students are super sweet and are ready to learn! Here are some of the activities they completed this past week!

We read "Un beso en mi mano" (The Kissing Hand). Each of my students shared how they were feeling on the first day of school! They also created Chester and completed a sentence!

I also gave them the opportunity to draw/write about their first day. I like to keep this picture and show it to them at the end of the year! I love to see their faces when they realized all the progress they have made.
You can find my Back to School Activity {HERE}

"Miss Nelson is Missing" is one of my FAVORITE books! I love to use this book to talk about rules and behavior. We also talked about characters, their characteristics and completed a Venn Diagram!
You can find my "Miss Nelson is Missing" activities and crafts {HERE}

 "La bolsita para conocerte mejor" is a great way to get to know your kiddos! At the beginning of the week, each student received a bag. They need to fill the bag with objects that are important to them and share it with the rest of the class!

It's a great activity, that helps my students get to know each other and established a great connection with their classmates! If you follow my TPT store check your inbox, I sent it as your August FREEBIE!

Have fun!

Labels

Every year I try to have as many labels as I can around my classroom. I like to see my kiddos trying to read the words or recognizing words they already know! It also helps my students build their vocabulary in English & Spanish.

This year I decided to add more to my list, and I ended up with 80 labels in Spanish & 80 labels in English! The last couple of days I've been busy laminating, cutting and putting them up in my class! I am sure my kids are going to have fun reading and writing all these words!

You can find a freebie with some of these labels {HERE}.
You can also find the full version with 80 labels in English & 80 labels in Spanish {HERE}.

1st Day of School Picture Frame

It's not a secret how much I LOVE pictures and frames!  After several days searching for the perfect frame for the 1st day of school, I decided to make my own! It turned out super cute, and to my husband's delight, I only spent less than $5!

I bought 4 stretcher strips at Hobby Lobby. They have different lengths, so you can make your frame the size you want.  I wanted mine small to make it easy for my Kindergartners to handle. I used 11" for the top and the bottom & 14" for the sides!

After I put the four pieces together, I painted them using acrylic paint I had at home.
I let the frame dry for a couple of minutes. It didn't take long. Meanwhile I laminated and cut the letters for the frame.

When I was done cutting the letters, my frame was dry, and I just needed to paste the letter to the frame. (I used hot glue.)

It took me about an hour to make this frame and it's super cute! Now I can check off one thing from my Back-to-School list!
If you follow my TPT store, these letters are this month freebie! I included PK-2.  I didn't want to leave any of my Early Childhood friends out!
Have fun making your own frame and post pics of your creations!
Have fun!

Mother's Day!

I am ready to start celebrating my Mother's Day weekend! But, first I would like to share with you all the activities we made in class for Mother's Day!

The kids painted these cute flowers using their fingers! It was a perfect decoration for this poem.
They also made a card and drew a pictures of their Moms.

We put everything together in this baggie! It was easy for the kids to carry it and make sure their mothers will get all their gifts!

A couple of weeks ago we learned about plants and recycling and here is the final product of those lessons! The kids were super excited to take this tiny plants to their mothers!

My little ones also surprised me with all these presents they made at school for me! I am very lucky to have my children surrounded by wonderful educators!
