How are all of you feeling?... and a FREE craftivity!

I am feeling tired! I spent last week working in my classroom, training, meetings and busy with my two little ones at home. But no matter that I am tired, I feel very excited about the new school year! My students will be back in the classroom Monday morning and I am ready to welcome them.

Last Thursday was our "Meet the Teachers Night" and I was able to meet my students and their parents. The kids are very excited about learning Spanish in my classroom! I love that excitement! I love to teach Spanish! So I am sure I am going to have a wonderful year ahead!

Here is a picture of the bookmarks I made to welcome my students! And also a picture of a cute activity I created. I am planning to read "La maestra del pantano negro" (The teacher from the black lagoon) on Monday and talk about the first day of school feelings. I think this book is perfect for the topic!

You can download this cute craftivity HERE for free!

Also I want to thank Rachel from the Spanglishclassroom for nominated me for the versatile blog! You are too sweet!

Have fun!

Do you have your classroom ready?

Oh no, I am still working on it!

Friday was my official first day, but I have been working in my classroom  since last week when I made my husband helped me move all my furniture. You know how it is when you come back from summer and find all your furniture all around the room! You want to fix it right away! So I took care of all that immediately or at least my husband did! ;)

This year our school theme is “Committed to Excellence and going for gold”, so I decided to reuse my decoration from last year (last year was Ocean) and tweak it to make it look sporty! I made different sports balls and I use them for my calendars, lockers, bulletin and room decoration!

You can download it for free HERE!

Here is a peek of my room. I still have work to do, but I am almost there!

Here is my bulletin board! It says " Trabajamos juntos por el oro" (Working    together to reach the gold!) I have two classes so I made both teams :)

Each table will be a different sport. Here is my soccer table (Team 2).

Here is my basketball table (Team 1).

I decorated my cabinets with balls from different sports! You can download them HERE for free!

Here is an example of how I made my ocean look sporty! Now my sea turtles are in a track and field competition. ;)

Here is my calendar! I used ballas as numbers... of course! ;)
You can download the numbers HERE for free!

This was just a sneak peek. I will post more pics when I finally have it ready next week! I would love to hear from all of you! Are you all ready? I hope you all are ready or almost ready... just like me!

All about me or "Todo sobre mí"

When I was a kid, I used to play that I was a teacher. Since I didn't have a board, I just used the door as the board (something that my parents didn't like at all).

That should have been a clue of what I wanted to become. But I spent six years working on the private sector before I finally figure out what was my calling.

As you may notice, I enjoy doing crafts with my students. I went to an artistic high school so I have a strong art background. Also I have seen as a Pre-K and second grade teacher how much my students learn by creating their own art.

Here are other things about me. My favorite color is "amarillo". My favorite movies are "The Notebook" and "Sweet Home Alabama". I love the most to be around my soon-to-be 4-year-old son, my gorgeous 5-months-old daughter and my grumpy Spanish-high school teacher hubby. I liked the least to cook. :-)

Now it's time to get to know the students. But ask 22 kids to talk about themselves at the same time could be a risky proposition. So HERE it's an easier way. Get them to write a book about themselves. Get them to make a craft. That way it's more fun and as a teacher, you find a lot about them.

I am so happy!

Thank you so much for all your positive feedback! And THANKS to my wonderful teaching partner Mrs. Lemons for motivating me to do this! It just took her a year to convince me! Ha!

I want to tell you a little more about me. I taught Pre-K for five years, but I switched to second grade three years ago.

I teach Spanish Language Arts, Science and Social Studies in Spanish to 2nd graders. But what make my job the best is that I teach in Spanish to both Spanish and English speakers. It's a challenge for my English students to learn another language, but the key for them is to have FUN while they learn! That it's why I love to create lessons that are hands on and fun.

While I was creating a back to school activity this week, I remembered about my days teaching Pre-K in Dallas so I decided to create something that the little ones as well as my 2nd graders could enjoy!

Check it out! My First Day of School Writing Craftivity K-2nd grade ( English & Spanish). Let me know what you think about it.
