Maps!

This week was all about learning simple maps skills. We learned about how to use the four cardinal directions, recognized the United States Map, Texas map and our city map!
We started the week finding our continent, state and city on Google Maps. My kiddos loved it! We even look for our school and local stores! They were so amazed!

To put in practiced what we learned my students created this cute craftivity. They needed to identify and label the different maps we learned in class.

They labeled, cut, colored and pasted each map.

They labeled the Earth.

The United States Map.

The Texas Map.

The Forney map.

And here is their final work!

And now they are hanging in our classroom! ;)

You can find this fun craftivity in English & Spanish HERE.

They also created their own maps, using a map key and the cardinals directions!

Pumpkins, Spiders, Bats, Nouns and Dia de los Muertos

We sure had a FUN week! We learned about spiders, bats, nouns, culture celebrations and more!
We started the week learning about the characteristics of spiders and bats. We made these cute books, and the kids wrote facts they learned about them.

We also made these cute hats!

We  learned about gender of nouns. These pumpkins were perfect for the lesson.

They wrote masculine nouns in the boy pumpkin and feminine nouns in the girl pumpkin.
By the end of the week, they were noun experts. They created a monster and described it using nouns!

Later they classify the nouns they used as proper and common nouns.

Toward the end of the week, we learned about " El Dia de los muertos". We read a story and  draw what we learned. We also created masks for our school parade.

Here are some of their wonderful pictures!

It was a great week! I love it when my students learn new things and have fun at the same time! You can find this activity HERE

Now some pics of our school parade!

Have a great weekend!!

Pete the Cat

Last week we had our Fall Festival and Character Literacy Day. My team and I decided to dresses up as "Pete the Cat" for both events and the kids loved it! As you know I love to make cute stuff, so I was in charge of Pete's shoes. I drew a template of his shoes and made six colorful pairs out of poster board.

I used poster board, hot glue and hole puncher for the shoe laces.

It was super easy to make. If you want to make these cute shoes, you can find the template {HERE}

"Pete the Cat" is not translated to Spanish yet, but that was not an excuse to make a cute and meaningful lesson for my Spanish speakers. After we read the story, we identified all the nouns we found in the story and it was perfect to review our lesson about "Sustantivos".

You can find this fun activity in English & Spanish HERE!
Next week we will keep learning about nouns. I will make some fun activities with pumpkins, and I will post pictures soon!

To finish my weekend, I made this cute table decoration for a baby shower. What do you think?

I love Eric Carle!

I introduced "Sequence of Events and Plot" to my students. I decided to use several Eric Carle's books to make the lesson fun and COLORFUL!!! I love this author and his books are perfect for my 1st graders.

We started the week reading "La oruga muy hambrienta" It was perfect because we reviewed the days of the week and sequence of events at the same time. Here are some pictures of their final work.

We also read "Oso, Oso, pardo, ¿que ves ahí?  and it was a great way to review question marks. My kiddos wrote their own "Oso pardo" book,  but sadly I forgot to take pictures. :(

We ended the week reading "Don Caballito de Mar," and  it worked perfect for a Plot activity. My students were able to identify and remember the story elements without a problem. I think that the colorful pages of the book helped my little ones stayed focus and remember every detail of the story ;).

Here are some more pictures of my students work!

 Have fun and
Have a great weekend!
